BuildYourCulture, Blog
Hello Everyone! I have been slowly and steadily building up a list of interesting organizations in this section of the website.  At first, it was just a small collection of links I had stumbled across over the last year or so.  Upon further reflection, I started to notice similar attributes that some of the organizations share.  For example, purpose statements.  It has been interesting to see organizations that are socially minded, come right out and say... Here is our purpose!  This blog post pulls together a few of those examples.  So, let's take a look at the list.

Warby Parker

First up, we have Warby Parker and their "Eyewear with a purpose." They have a very simple and direct purpose statement on their website, "We believe that everyone has the right to see." I like it. Simple and direct.

Plant With Purpose

Next up, we have PlantWithPurpose.org. You can get a strong sense of their direction from the name, but more information is on their website. Here is their purpose statement, "By reversing deforestation, Plant With Purpose helps the poor restore productivity to their land to create economic opportunity out of environmental restoration." Bring back the plants! I can get behind that!

Passports With Purpose

Next, we have another great community with the word "Purpose" right in their name. PassportsWithPurpose.org brings together people in the travel blogger community to bring awareness and change to the people they meet. It's an inspiring idea which is reflected in their statement, "Each year the Passports With Purpose founders select a charity based on several criteria along with our sense of what would inspire us and the Travel Bloggers community."

Miir

Miir has an interesting twist to their approach.  It's an longer, but inclusive statement that makes me think about the entire process of product creation, from how its made, to who is it impacting and in what fashion. At MiiR, we believe in challenging the status quo. We believe in thinking differently about what we create and who it may impact. We do this by making our products highly functional, well designed while giving back to those in need. We decided to start by making great bottles with significant purpose behind them.

Closing

After further reflection, it's nice to see organizations and companies that identify with a sense of purpose, the big picture, and actively consider the WHY of WHAT they are doing in the world.  With good intention people and groups are doing amazing things that inspire me to keep digging, writing, and promoting awareness for their causes.

With a sense of purpose in mind, I leave you with the following questions:
  • What is purpose?
  • What is the purpose of the groups you are tied to?
  • How can we all find more purpose in our daily lives?
  • How could a business find value with a purpose statement?

Thanks,
